The student is introduced to the various steps involved in research or the seeking, finding, and using of information. (This is typically done within the realm of project-based learning or when opportunities to seek information present themselves.)

The student is able to recognize when there is a need for information. When PLANNING a student:

  • Identifies a problem and/or selects a topic for research
  • Draws on prior knowledge
  • Uses/Formulates a primary (BIG) question to guide research
  • Uses/Formulates secondary questions to provide focus
  • Identifies keywords
  • Identifies appropriate information sources
  • Develops a plan to meet deadlines, if necessary
  • Establishes a search strategy
  • Reflects on the planning process
