The student is introduced to the various steps involved in research or the seeking, finding, and using of information. (This is typically done within the realm of project-based learning or when opportunities to seek information present themselves.)
The student is able to recognize when there is a need for information. When PLANNING a student:
- Identifies a problem and/or selects a topic for research
- Draws on prior knowledge
- Uses/Formulates a primary (BIG) question to guide research
- Uses/Formulates secondary questions to provide focus
- Identifies keywords
- Identifies appropriate information sources
- Develops a plan to meet deadlines, if necessary
- Establishes a search strategy
- Reflects on the planning process
